About
Unthought Known is an evolving understanding of user experience and interaction design.
I’m a User Experience Researcher & Designer based in Denver, CO. I consult with a variety of businesses and have recently began working with ReadyTalk in Denver, CO. I also teach a graduate class at the University of Denver that focuses on user experience and the process behind better understanding user behavior.
The tough part about being in this field is the paradigm shift from traditional development methodologies which tend to exclude user input to modern development environments where design is user-centered. The rewarding part about being in this field is when the light bulb goes off and the benefits of incorporating user feedback is realized. Whether that light bulb be inside a development team or from observing a user accomplish a task made easier by a well-designed interface.
Outside of experience design, I’m interested in researching where usability and learning meet. Being one who fervently believes in, and evangelizes the benefits of usability, I know that pain-free, simple and intuitive interfaces are a good thing. That said, I’m very interested in understanding where usability fails learners. Problem-Based Learning (and related theories) tell us that we learn best when we have to think, when we’re required to create the cognitive connections between concepts. This is something I consider regularly and hope to explore more.
